Such a Long Time to Be Gone and a Short Time to Be There - 05/26/11

2011 7:31 AM EDT

Mark Haines would likely be embarrassed by all the attention he has received, so today we move on.

It's just a box of rain
I don't know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
Or leave it if you dare
But it's just a box of rain
Or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long long time to be gone
and a short time to be there.

-- Grateful Dead, "Box of Rain"

Here is the tape of my tribute and personal memories of Mark Haines on "Fast Money" last night.

My guess is that Mark is up in heaven today, resting peacefully, but he is probably embarrassed by all the attention he has received in the last 24 hours.

He is also probably antsy to move forward to the next stage.

In all likelihood, this morning Mark is having his morning coffee and perusing the Belmont racetrack entries in the New York Post or Daily News. On a hunch, considering the circumstances, Mark might even be considering placing a wager on the No. 5 horse in the third race at Belmont, who is appropriately named Bulls and Bears.

Today, we all move on.

I will write about the markets, the economy, musical lyrics and the results of "American Idol" (among other subjects).

But we will carry Mark in our hearts -- always.

Look out of any window
Any morning, any evening, any day
Maybe the sun is shining
Birds are winging or
Rain is falling from a heavy sky
What do you want me to do
To do for you to see you through?
This is all a dream we dreamed
One afternoon long ago.
